About

Who is School Data Nerd?

My name is Ben Feinberg, I am a father of two silly children, and the husband to an incredible wife. My dog is way cuter than your dog.

I am also an 8th grade math and engineering teacher at Luther Burbank Middle School in Highland Park. I am eleventh year teacher, 2008 Teach For America corps member, 2016 California League of Middle Schools Educator of the Year and 2018 LAUSD Teacher of the Year. My students won the LA City MESA Engineering Design Challenge in 2018.

In previous iterations of myself, I taught at Johnny Cochran Middle School in Mid-City, until I was RIF-ed in 2009. After that, I worked for Aspire Public Schools, a charter school operator in Huntington Park, as a 5th and 6th grade teacher for five years.

I am a UTLA member.

Why I Write?

I am obsessed with data on education. As a teacher, I find the results not only fascinating, but often extremely reflective of my own experience. For years I have simply been secretly looking at it on my free time and sharing it with my friends and colleagues. I have decided to share it with you. Enjoy my crazy.

How can you support SDN?

The blogging I do here is a hobby. I do not get paid for it. However, if you feel the urge to contribute, I would greatly appreciate any donation you can make to my students through Donors Choose.
