A few weeks ago, I published a map of UC Acceptance rates. However, I am a total noob when it comes to this whole website thing, so I couldn’t figure out how to really make it searchable. Well, I think I figured out how to make it searchable: If you click you can search and find any given school. Just search using your browser. (Note: If you want to use this for public use, be cool and ask me first).
On a second note, I noticed something when looking at the data- There are several schools that have extreme discrepancies with their applications and acceptances to UC schools. That is, they have large percentage of their students apply, but few get in. Here are the top ten schools in UC application vs. acceptance difference:

To wrap your mind around this, I think its best to think of this at just one school – At Animo South Los Angeles, 58% of seniors applied to UCs, but only 7% were accepted.
I am kind of torn on the meaning of the data. On the one hand, there really is nothing wrong with over-applying to UCs. For many students, the fee is waived, and the application process is really a great experience with valuable skills learned along the way. On the other hand, leading students to believe they can get into a UC and then having them hinge their hopes on it for 5 months until they are ultimately rejected can be a demoralizing experience.
So, in summary: I have no idea if this is good or bad, just something that stood out to me.
